What Is a Metal Detox Treatment?

A metal detox treatment removes the mineral and metal residue that builds up in hair from water, so color and lightener work evenly and blonde stays clean. At Vegas Hair Color we use the 3-step L’Oréal Professionnel Metal Detox system, as part of our color services at no extra charge.

Why Hair Needs a Metal Detox

Tap water and pool water leave minerals and traces of metals behind in the hair, and lightened, porous hair holds onto them most. In Las Vegas the water is very hard, averaging 280 ppm, so the build-up comes quickly. That residue:

  • dulls color and turns blonde brassy;
  • stops color and toner from taking evenly, which can leave patchy results;
  • can interfere with lightener while it works. L’Oréal designed Metal Detox to neutralize metal particles in the hair before and during coloring, to reduce breakage.

The 3 Steps

  1. Pre-treatment mist. Sprayed on before the service, it opens the hair cuticles.
  2. Metal Detox shampoo. After the color is rinsed, it gently removes the residue.
  3. Care conditioner or mask. It finishes the service and seals the cuticles, so residue can’t get back into the cuticle layers.

Who Needs It?

  • Anyone lightening their hair in Las Vegas: highlights, babylights or balayage.
  • Blondes whose toner fades or turns brassy within weeks.
  • Swimmers, and anyone whose blonde has a green or dull cast.
  • Anyone starting a color correction.

The Vegan Alternative: Malibu

Malibu crystals also remove hard water residue. Malibu is a vegan product, completely harmless to the hair, with a range that also covers color removing and color correction. We choose between Metal Detox and Malibu based on your hair at the consultation.
